FAQ for Parents
FAQ's for Parents and Guardians

Frequently-Asked-Questions for Parents and Guardians

 1. When do classes occur? The First Tee offers spring, summer and fall classes. Spring classes will be held in May and early June, with Opening Day clinics held at each facility. Summer classes will be held from late-June through late August. Fall classes will be held in September and run through the end of October.

2. Where are classes offered? Classes are offered at 4 locations listed below. Participants may register and attend classes at only one location of choice.

Jefferson Park Golf Course (4101 Beacon Ave S. Seattle, WA 98108)

Jackson Park Golf Course (1000 NE 135th St. Seattle, WA 98125)

Crossroads Par 3 Course (15801 NE 15th St., Bellevue, WA 98008)

Riverbend Golf Complex (2019 West Meeker Street, Kent, WA 98032)

3. How much does it cost? Registration is $79 for new participants and $69 for returning participants. There are no additional costs for classes and activities directly related to the program. This fee may be waived in the case of financial need. We request that parents/guardians sign-up to volunteer to staff the Club House to help participants check-in for at least one of their child’s lesson segments (2 hours in duration.)

4.How do I register? You can register by mail. Registration materials are available on our Web site in the "How to Register" section.

5.How do I sign up for classes? Our schedule is designed to be easy to plan around and we also hope it’s easy for participants to fulfill all Level Requirements to be eligible for Certification. Once registered, you’ll be able to sign up for one class per week at a set time, for instance: every Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. Participants may sign-up for classes at one location only.  Please visit the "How to Register" Section for class schedules and sign up information.

6.What are the classes like? Classes will be taught in groups of 10-12 students and will last approximately 2 to 3 hours. Classes will include all Core Lessons, Rules & Etiquette, and Manners & Playing. Certification will be “progressive” with Golf Skills tests and Life Skills assessments taking place each week during the classes. Pass a written test at sessions’ end and you could be on your way to the next level in The First Tee Life Skills Experience.

7.What age and ability level does the program include? Children ages 8 – 18 years old may participate. We also have fun, introductory classes for 5 – 7 year olds called Target/New Friends to Golf. Students will work on a particular curriculum and be tested on skills and knowledge from beginning level called Par, to Birdie level, and then Eagle level and finally advanced level – Ace.

8. How long does it take to complete the entire program? Students are encouraged to participate at whatever speed works best for them. This approach will enable the highest levels of enjoyment for all students. Take it at your own pace. A student who attends regularly and is able to demonstrate the Life Skills for his/her level can expect to complete one level per season.
